EK Southern Region War Practice
For those who want an update about my vacation, or my first week back to work at KB Toys, I promise they'll be along soon. But first, I need to take care of a small matter that will eat up hours and days of my time: the East Kingdom (of the SCA) southern Region War Practice Dayboard. Or, for those not in the SCA, a cold buffet for 1000 set up at the side of a large grassy field in Lehighton, PA next weekend.

So please pardon my To-Do list.

Please tell me you're not doing this all on your lonesome?
melvh From: [info]melvh Date: July 17th, 2005 03:20 pm (UTC) (Link)
No. [info]torin3's wife is cutting half of the pickles into spears.

Still sounds like a lot to go. :/
Let me know if you'd like me to bring anything in particular to SRWC other than myself and Ryan... a pillow for you, tea... aspirin....

*hugs* Don't overwork yourself, ok?

See..... the trick is to have it all done by the time people would be arriving for the event.

And apparently folks who'll be on-site Friday when the fruit gets in will take care of the canteloupe, watermelon and oranges for me, so it should be finished by the time I get there.

So even though it sounds like a lot of work, I should be able to go at a pretty leisurely pace for this week & be pretty relaxed on the day I'm serving all of it out.

Thanks for the offer, though. But it'll be enough for me if you just bring you & Ryan (and the appropriate gear to get you through the weekend.

The 3 jars that are to be 1/8th cut are done. The other 3 to be 1/6th cut should be done sometime today.

Got to fix the bed now. :)

Cubing cheese BLOWS!!!!

Why DO you volunteer? Like why do I volunteer for crap like that? I HATE cubing cheese! Always hurts my hands, I never have good knives...I noticed your to do list had better knives...heh.

Good luck! Take pictures of it!!!

Re: Cubing cheese BLOWS!!!!

Actually, I don't mind cubing up the cheese. The stuff that's likely to hurt my hands gets done with a wire. And it's only about 30-35 pounds of cheese anyway.

Not sure about getting pictures. This isn't the sort of thing I can set up and step aside to shoot. The dayboard gets set up right beside the list field under a canopy --and as soon as the folks see food coming out, they descend like vultures. From that point on, I'll be spending the next 2 or 3 hours replenishing trays as they get emptied. And then the whole shebang moves to the back of court.

If I do the spiffy bread for the royals I'll be sure to get a shot of that, though.

As for why I volunteer.... well, that's my own doing. I saw what the previous dayboard provider put out and winced from all the potential food poisoning I was watching. On top of that, as we were doing clean=up two years ago, she was bitching and moaning about it. So I asked her why she did it if it made her so miserable. Her response was "who else could do this? you?!". I told her that yeah, I could do it. So she told the autocrats that I volunteered for the next one. When they asked me for confirmation, I figured what the hell. It's one event a year; and there's no feast, so it's just a dayboard.

I bring it in under her old budgets, put out half again as much food, and people have been telling me all year that they love what I did. So I'm doing it again.

Re: Cubing cheese BLOWS!!!!

Well, GOOD FOR YOU! :) I'm glad you do it and you SHOW HER ASS! Yeay! I like doing luncheons like this, actually. usually they are worth is because the people you are doing it for are your friends or at least they appreciate it. Usually its fun. I hate doing it when I'm bamboozled into doing it...you know what I mean?

Good luck! Have fun! Wish I was there to help.
